MY PROCESS

The majority of my work is created in a very analog fashion, starting with a sketch. Blocks are carved or screens created with drawing fluid and then printed. I print everything by hand and frequently add watercolor or other custom elements after the primary blocks are printed. This means that most finished artwork is one of a kind or of a very limited edition. I rarely create editions larger than 20 pieces because I find too much repetition tedious. Therefore each piece I create is unique so if you love it, don't wait to take it home with you

Sketch First

Sketch first, then carve, then print a test image...

APPLY INK

I use Caligo Safewash Ink for block printing. Ink is applied with a roller to the carved block and then I use a baren to transfer the image to paper

The Big Reveal

It is so exciting to lift back the paper to see your image printed at last! Blocks are carved in reverse so it isn't until the big reveal that you can fully appreciate your composition

Not Just For Paper

I love experimenting with printing on other surfaces besides just paper. Because I don't use a printing press I am not limited to 2D surfaces and often print on wooden blocks and panels

SCREEN PRINTS

I also create screens for printing - I block them by hand so everything has a very authentic feel to it. I don't want my rt to feel too cold, perfect or mechanical.

Functional Art

I love creating useful things in addition to decorative works
